Why build a double storey home?
- More floor area without giving up the backyard.
- Living areas downstairs and bedrooms upstairs, so the quiet rooms stay quiet.
- A way to fit more bedrooms on a narrower block.
- On a knockdown rebuild, a bigger home on the block you already own.
How will Oakview build it?
The same way we build every home: through the five stages of a Victorian building contract, base, frame, lock-up, fixing and completion, with the details you choose: stone benchtops, feature ceilings, timber-look floors and the tapware and lighting you pick.
What should you know before building up?
- Victoria’s siting rules (setbacks, overlooking and overshadowing of the neighbours) apply to every second storey, and your building surveyor checks them before the building permit.
- Some estates’ design guidelines set their own rules for double storey facades.
- The soil test and survey decide the slab, which carries more weight under two storeys.
- Planning overlays on your property can add conditions: check them on VicPlan, or ask us.
